Watch a group of young children who are just beginning to read and you’ll notice one thing about almost all of them. Even if they have been instructed to silently read, most of the children will be mouthing the words they are reading. Their lips will move to pronounce the words, even though they are not speaking them aloud. The reason they do this is because as children begin to learn to read, they vocalize the sounds of the individual letters and then later on, the sounds of the words.
Although this process is helpful to the children as they are introduced to the concept of reading, it’s also significantly reducing the speed at which they read.
If you’ve ever watched a television show that featured speed readers or if you’ve ever known someone who could speed read, you might have noticed that their lips don’t move. That’s not coincidence, it’s actually very significant.
When a person reads out loud or they mouth the words as they read, it takes them longer to read than someone who simply looks at the word and absorbs it. This is one of the important steps in speed reading – learning to not vocalize the words either out loud or silently.
It’s difficult though for a person who has always read in this manner to change. Even if they understand that the benefit of not reading aloud is that they will dramatically change their reading speed. It’s a habit and it’s one that becomes natural over time. It can be changed though.
One thing that a person can do to change this habit and to begin on the road to speed reading is to learn not to move their mouths as they read. If you are a parent with a youngster just learning to read and you hear them reading out loud, you might suggest that they try and read to themselves. If they do and you see their lips silently moving to the words, encourage them to try and refrain from that. You can do that by giving them something to chew on, perhaps a stick of gum or a chewy candy. This will preoccupy their mouth enough that eventually the inclination to silently say the words will disappear.
Although adults are more conscious of this behavior, many still do it. They can try those same techniques, the chewing gum or a candy idea. Another idea that works well for adult is if they are alone, they can place their hand over their mouth while they read. This stops the behavior automatically. The benefit of this method is that the person becomes fully aware of when their mouth is moving along with the written words. They can stop it as it is happening. This will ultimately result in them stopping the practice.
With a little work the desire to mouth words as you read them can be stopped. When it is stopped, the rate at which you read will already be climbing. Speed reading is a skill that virtually everyone can learn; it’s just a matter of dropping old behaviors, such as silently mouthing words, and instead adapting new behaviors.

Speed Reading As A Study Aid
Any high school or college student will tell you that they spend many hours lost in their books, studying for exams. In order to ace the exam, it’s essential that they know the material. In order to know the material that may mean reading it over and over again until the key details become ingrained in their mind. For a student who reads at a normal pace, this process can take hours and they may lose interest before they are adequately prepared.
A great investment for any student regardless of age is to spend some time learning speed reading. The process itself is relatively easy; it involves taking the reading skills that you already have, and boosting them up through the use of specific techniques. The goal with speed reading is to have your mind and eyes working in unison so that you are reading at a much faster pace while absorbing the meaning of what you are reading.
Students tend to pick up reading habits young. It is those habits that will influence how they read for the remainder of their lives. Some of the habits that children adopt that slow down their reading rate include:
Reading in a noisy environment. Many children play music loudly or have the television on while they are studying. Any loud noise is a distraction to the reading and although the child may read an entire passage or chapter of a book in one evening, they may not absorb any of the information if they are doing it while distracted.
Reading in bed. When anyone reads in bed, they may not be getting the most out of what they are reading. Body position is important to reading and being in bed doesn’t afford you the concentration you could get if you were sitting at a table or at a desk with the book directly in front of you.
Losing their place in the text. Reading an entire page of text can be laborious and a bit overwhelming especially for younger readers. Unless they are following with a bookmark or their finger, they may easily lose their place and either reread entire blocks of text, or miss entire lines of text. Incorporating a method of following text into their reading routine can make a remarkable difference.
Children can learn to adopt new methods of reading that will greatly improve both their reading speed and their comprehension. The younger these techniques are introduced the more beneficial it is to the student. Parents can help by encouraging the child to read in a dimly lit room, while seated at a desk or a table in a quiet room. If the child becomes accustomed to reading this way, they will already be well on their way to learning the basics needed for speed reading. Studying is a fundamental part of learning, and making it easier and more enjoyable will guarantee more success for the student.

Learn Speed Reading --- Read Faster --- Read Better
Let’s face it, the ability to read faster, and still comprehend what you’re reading, is an essential skill in today’s fast moving environment. We must read extensively if we want to be successful in our studies, or careers.
There’s no doubt, learning to speed read is probably the most valuable and time saving skill you can acquire. Frankly, under today's information pressures you must read faster and read better if you are to get ahead at all.
Of course, some people will say you can do fine without knowing how to speed read. WRONG! Young men and women trained in Modern Speed Reading show distinct advantages over those who lack this kind of preparation. Schools and colleges have discovered that courses in reading skills give enormous aid to students struggling under the heavier loads of today's scholastic programs. Their higher grade point averages speak for themselves.
Just imagine being able to read a novel in less than half the time it takes you now, and knowing how to skim an article effectively so the information you’re seeking seems to pop out of the page for you to find. Once you can speed read, your whole attitude toward reading changes. You will enjoy reading a great deal more and will read with greater intelligence.
Once you have become proficient at speed reading, you’ve prepared yourself to move with confidence into the wonderful world of books. It will be a rich experience with your newly developed skills, for books are an opening of new horizons, a road to new adventures, and a source of unending pleasure and delight. People who have really learned to read are never at a loss and are never lonely. A good book is the best of friends, the same today and forever.
Learning to speed read is not a difficult or painfully long process. In fact, a recently released e-Book (Learn To Speed Read - Read Faster, Read Better) that I have just finished had me reading faster by the fourth chapter. Truly fast reading skills come with time and practice of course, but this book can teach you to read faster and read better right from the beginning.
If you are a High School or College Student, read extensively for your work, like reading the morning newspaper each day, or just enjoy reading a good novel occasionally, you really should consider learning to speed read. Once learned, it is a skill that will benefit you throughout your life.

Speed Read Faster Than Ever With These 4 Tips
Many people, particularly students, would love to be able to absorb information faster. But before retaining information, they have to go through the first stage of learning, which is reading.
For many individuals who are pressed for time, speed reading has become a necessity. However, it's not just the reading part that is important. Equally essential is for the reader to fully understand the words coming out from the book or paper.
Speed reading can be learned from courses where you Learn the techniques and how to train. It is then important That you keep practicing your speed reading as well as reading comprehention.
Here are some great tips to read and comprehend faster.
1) Relax.
If you're in the stressed mode, it would be much more difficult to concentrate; hence, it would just be a lot harder for the information to sink in.
2) Know what you want.
Focus on the areas that you really need to learn. Some people read all parts of a book, when all they need to know is a specific chapter.
Know your priority. If you need to find out about a certain subject, go to the Table of Contents and search for the heading that best suits your need. If you need to learn more, then adjust accordingly. The important thing is to weed out the stuffs that you don't currently need.
3) Get rid of the structure words.
Did you know that around 60% of the words we read are structure words? Examples are the words "the, or, and." They are essential in the structure of the sentences; but when you ignore them, they basically mean the same thing. They only serve to beautify, yet you can understand what you are reading even without them. Try not to focus too much attention on structure words.
4) Practice, practice, practice.
When I started exercising with weights, I can only lift the lighter ones. As the time goes by, I slowly add more and more weights as my body tends to adjust and become more comfortable carrying heavier ones.
The same concept goes for speed reading. Set a goal. Figure out how fast you can read, then create a plan to increase your ability.
If you can read 200 words per minute, set a goal to read 250 words a minute. After accomplishing this feat, set a goal to read 300 words per minute, and keep increasing the the goal as your speed improve.

Superhuman
Interesting title isn’t it? Superhuman, what does this mean to you? Are you thinking of superman, the one that could fly, that would be invincible and that would melt ice with his eyes, or are you thinking of Einstein the super genius, the man that made so many discoveries, and that used his mind as it should be used?
Well, sorry to disappoint you, but I’m thinking of the second one! Actually, I’m not thinking about Einstein in particularly, but I am thinking at a superhuman race. Do you know that humans haven’t evolved in the last 5000 years considering the way that they think? They are still driven by the same inner needs, they are greedy, lazy and have a tendency to evil. The fact is that the thought process hasn’t changed at all, we learn as hard, we forget as easily, we are attracted by things that are easy to obtain and we don’t like complications.
The question as I see it: can we change the way we think, the way we learn, the way we react to life in one word, can we become Superhuman in our lifetime or not? There is a lot of material out there that promises some of the brain powers that we should all long for. Have you heard of “Speed reading”? This would be a skill to consider during these times when information has cornered us. Basically you can read 2 – 5 times as fast as you read now, and understand more. Sounds good, doesn’t it? But is it true? I read and read and searched a lot and found out that it is. There are humans, no different from you or me that possess this skill. They can read fast and understand what they read, for them this is as regular as tying a shoe.
Does this impress you, well let me tell you about another thing: “Photo reading”. What is this you might ask? Well, some of us have the ability to photo read, that means they look at a page and read it all in once with 90 – 100% comprehension. Can they be called super humans? Can you imagine how much you can learn and know possessing a skill like that? But the question comes once again: “Is this for real”? Can’t help you here anymore, I can tell you that there are people who can do this, and there are courses that allegedly will teach you this, but you’ll have to find out for your own if it’s possible. The one thing that everybody is saying the power is in us, we all can de it if we want to.
Want to know my opinion on this? I think that the human brain has far more potential than we know. The problem is that we don’t use it. People are content with their lives if they have something to eat and somewhere to sleep. My advice is: stop wasting time and do something for yourself!
